Akshay Mathavan
Akshay, a medical graduate student at UF, and pst member of the group, is doing research work during the Summer of 2020 in Molecular Chimeras.Specifically, he is interested in providing molecular insight into the stabilization of glucose oxidase (GOx) via polymer conjugation. GOx, a dimeric oxido-reductase that catalyzes the oxidation of glucose to hydrogen peroxide and gluconic acid, which can be used to quantify free glucose concentrations, through the development of accurate glucose-sensing devices. Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a serious chronic disease that currently affects more than 400 million people worldwide and is projected to affect nearly 200 million more within the next few decades
